The beach!

Tolcarne, a beautiful sandy crescent shaped beach which is carved into the Cornish coastline, though it seems to exist in a private oasis it is situated in the centre of Newquay.
Town is easily accessible by foot within minutes, with low tide providing the additional opportunity to walk across the sandy shores of the town beaches and into the heart of Newquay.

Tolcarne provides the perfect natural playground, with surf from the Atlantic breaking on its shores, allowing high tide to provide one of the most famous waves in British surfing 'The Wedge'.
Due to the protected lye of the beach swimming in the waves is fun for all of the family. At low tide Tolcarne unveils beautiful rock pools which trap the sun to provide the perfect natural swimming environment away from the currents of the ocean.

Tolcarne not only offers it beautiful shores it also provides a wealth of activity such as-

  • Surf Hire
  • Bike Hire
  • Mini Golf
  • Kahuna restaurant, serving meals made with the best local ingredients, and also providing a licensed bar www.kahunatolcarne.co.uk
  • Venus, the organic award winning beach cafe takeaway, along with a beach shop, provides a large range of food for everyone to enjoy a day at the beach www.venuscompany.co.uk
  • Animal surf school, provides a professional and fun environment which encourages everyone to try and develop surfing www.animal.co.uk
  • Lifeguards, there is a lifeguard service available during the summer from 10am-6pm

Location and Area

Newquay

With its fantastic location hidden in the northern Cornish coastline Newquay offers a seemingly endless sweep of sandy beaches, with towering cliffs and pounding surf, making it one of the most desirable holiday locations in the UK.

Discovering the buzzing Cornish harbour town of Newquay offers plenty of opportunity to see the local culture, as well as trying the local produce. It is effortless to travel around the county from this central location with days out to Penzance and Bude, still allowing enough time to be back to relax and watch the sunset. Everything is within easy walking distance, from the shops, to the aquarium and even the boating lake and zoo.

Newquay's wealth of experiences does not end with the great swells of the Atlantic, so once you have tried surfing, kite surfing, waterskiing and wakeboarding the stunning coastline offers plenty of opportunities to explore hidden gems by foot or bike.

Gettting there

We offer a 5% discount on shack accommodation for groups that are travelling to Newquay either by coach or train.

There is no parking available with the shacks, due to the limited space for cars at the bottom of the cliff. However, there is plenty of parking at the top of the beach, with a new long stay carpark, and plenty of street parking outside of the peak hours.

If you are arriving by plane then you can contact us and we can give you the details of a good taxi firm which will bring you right down to the beach, this is also the case for arriving by train, though the train station is within easy walking distance

Practicalities

What to bring

All the shacks are fully equipped with duvets, pillows and linen for four beds along with each shack having one electric light. There is a vast range of surf hire available at the beach reception. We can charge electronic items if required, though we do say that we take no responsibility if any damage or loss occurs. A few items that we recommend that you bring include-

  • Towels, one for the beach and one for showering
  • Torches
  • Suncream and hats
  • Cups, and any other cutlery equipment you feel you may need
  • Medicine and personal first aid kit.

Pets

Unfortunately no pets are allowed on the beach.

Consideration for others

We are aware that Tolcarne is a wonderful holiday destination so try to allow people to enjoy their holiday to the maximum by having security at the beach during the night, and asking that any noise is kept to a minimum after 10pm.

Alcohol

On the actual beach there is a strict no drinking policy. However, you are allowed to drink in your shack and on its patio, there is also a licensed bar on the beach which has its own area for customers.

Fire and BBQ's

On Tolcarne private fires and BBQ's are not allowed anywhere on the beach because of the danger that they present to all of those who are staying and working at the beach. There is a restaurant that does provide BBQ's on the beach.

Security

We have security throughout the night, and throughout the day there are plenty of members of staff who can help you with any question you may have. All the shacks have keys and blinds in which we try to make them an as safe as an environment as possible. They all have a walkway where only shack holders are allowed to walk down.
